It's easy to applaud McCain's opposition to Bush on the Geneva Convention, maybe too easy.
I'm not doubting his sincerity, but the political implications of what he is doing are worth noting. McCain is continuing to annoy the hard right Repubs and on the surface it looks like he is hurting his primary chances.
Since the hard right won't be backing McCain anyway, he doesn't have to worry about losing their support. I think that McCain thinks his best selling point is his high polling vs, Hillary. Ironically, if he wins over a few Dems with his current stand, it could mean even better poll numbers to strengthen his arguement that he is the Repub that can win.
