The first boot to fall if there is going to be a re-instatement of the military draft will be a medical personnel draft. This draft may be getting closer than many may expect.
There are reports that medical and nursing students are filling out "more" paperwork than normal when filing government paperwork. Of course, after this memo was circulated around medical schools, it could be nervous students that think that they are about to drafted and they are acting a bit paranoid. Can you blame them?
It has been
well known for a long time that the Selective Service has been updating there plans for draft of doctors, nurses, and other health-care workers. Consultants have said that the SSS should be making contacts in the medical community but these should be
limited, low-key and discreet because "overtures from Selective Service to the medical community will be seen as precursors to a draft," and that could alarm the public. No Shit, Sherlock.
But, many in the medical community are saying under their breathe that the SSS has been talking to them. So no wonder there are some nervous folks.
The only way that a Medical Draft can start is by order of the Congress. The moment after Congress approves and the President signs it, in 14 days medical personnel will need to start to report to their local boards. I see some nervous graduates this summer.
Are there any Medical Folks that have any stories to tell?
